The Dark Angels are one of the gangs encountered in BattleTanx and BattleTanx: Global Assault, and also a part of the Dark Alliance.
Gameplay[]
What was once just a Doomsday cult with a couple members, became a force of evil after the end of the world. The Dark Angels were regarded as just another cult in the old world. Their method of indoctrination was questionable at best, the rumours of sacrifice had been around since the cult existed. They believed that the world was too far gone to continue on. The prophecy, according to them, stated that the world would come to an end through disease and war for decades before the actual end fell upon the world. The Dark Angels believed that they have been chosen by their lord to survive the mass cleansing of the world.
In the midst of the X2 Outbreak, they began to experience a small growth. It wasn't until chaos erupted from the government seizing all women that the Dark Angels numbers had ballooned in size. Before the media went dark, there were reports and footage of large groups marching along the streets flagellating themselves much like in the times of The Bubonic Plague. Desperate times brought about many desperate people who sought salvation from just about anything. The Dark Angels were there to guide them to their flock in exchange for pure devotion.
Their prophecy proved to come true (in their eyes) once the nuclear war ended. The Dark Angels had survived. As chosen followers of their deity, their next step was to expedite the cleansing of the world by killing and burning down remnants of what was once part of the old world. They came across many abandoned tanks and soon, became the most feared gang in the west.
Their influence was felt by the survivors of Armageddon. They soon joined forces with the Skull Riderz and After Shocks to form The Dark Alliance. This alliance sought to keep control of the west by carving out territory. However, the Dark Angels knew that after this alliance, it was slated that they would annihilate the Skull Riderz and After Shocks as they were part of the sinfulness that lingered in the devasted wasteland of America.
Each follower in the Dark Angels is devout to their lord and will willingly sacrifice themselves at a whim. They are known to use M-80 Demolition Tanks at great length. Their purpose to continue to cleanse what little remains overrides their human instinct for self preservation. Many people they capture in the wastes will be brainwashed by them. They're essential stripped of their whole being and indoctrinated into their crusade. It has also been rumored that Dark Angels will capture survivors and force them to operate M-80 Demolition Tanks against their will with the threat of torturing or sacrificing them or their loved ones.
Eventually, the Dark Angels would cross paths with a group on their own crusade. Griffins new army rolled through their territory, fought and liberated many survivors. The sheer strength, determination, and tactics of Griffin had severely weaken the Dark Angels power and influence. Their devotion to their ominous god was unmatched (and out gunned) by the devotion to their families that Griffin and his army had.
Six years later, in 2006, the Dark Angels still operate but are the shadow of their former selves. They ultimately fell under the influence of Cassandra with promise of continuing the cleansing and revenge over the battle lord, Griffin Spade, for his destruction of the Dark Angels. They led the assault on the newly built San Francisco, territory of Griffin and attempted to kidnap his and Madison's son, Brandon. The Dark Angels were decimated by the defense but not before they set San Francisco aflame. Remanets of Dark Angels will still find a way to regrow in numbers much like vermin always will.
