The Les Misérables are a gang encountered in BattleTanx: Global Assault.
This gang is compromised by women and children who were abandoned by French society before the apocalypse as well as orphaned children and displaced women after. Those that survived scavenged the cities in France, specifically Paris for shelter, supplies, and to hide from roaming packs of marauders. The ones who were abandoned by society well before found this new world no different from the old one that rejected them: cruel, unjust and devoid of love.
Many of these survivors found their only escape through drugs that they scavenged or suicide due to the harshness of the world that had become harsher. However, they will soon find solace in this new bleak world through Cassandra.
She has given them shelter away from the abandoned city of Paris, away from the fallout, has given them clean food and water but most importantly, the very thing that they had been deprived of: compassion. However, this is all a ruse. Cassandra offered a sanctuary from the horrible new world and has brainwashed these abandoned people to be enslaved by her. They are blinded by her mask of unconditional love that has made them believe her to be their adopted mother. She cares not for the rejected survivors and enslaved them to be another branch of her army protecting her interest in Paris. In fact, they serve as cannon fodder.
They are consistently reminded of the misery of the past and the present which is their namesake, Les Misérables. All the while being eternally grateful to be "saved" by Casandra. This is a cult-like gang of misfits that may be an off shot of the Dark Angels with looking to Cassandra as their defacto mother.
The young boys, girls, and women are taught to operate tanks. Those who proved to be the most loyal and adept at tank combat were eventually recruited to Cassandra's forces, her personal army.
There is a faction of Les Misérables that see right through Cassandra's lies. However, they are enslaved by her power and reluctantly carry out her bidding. They live in fear and misery in secret, too fearful of what Cassandra will have the others do to traitors.
They roam around the cracked streets of Paris in their M-2 Hydra and Rattler tanks carrying out Cassandra's wishes, attacking anyone deemed as a threat.
